100th Anniversary Book
The first Australian Grand Prix was not run at Phillip Island in 1928. It was run at Goulburn on 15 January 1927, and it was promoted under that name before a wheel turned.
This 200 page A4 hardcover sets out the case and tells the story. Newspaper reports, race advertisements, the official programme, photographs and family records, assembled over years of research, reconstruct a race that was quietly written out of Australian motorsport history.
It is also a book about people. Geoff Meredith, the Goulburn grazier who won in a Type 30 Bugatti. Don Harkness, engineer, inventor and racer. Jack O’Rourke. Phil Garlick, who died at Maroubra the week before and never made the grid. And Goulburn itself, a country town with a motorsport heritage that made 1927 no accident.
Includes a full list of Australian Grand Prix winners, 1927 to 2026.
